If you have not been to the Costa del Sol recently, or you have but not gone back to Estepona, possibly because you thought it was a slightly sleepy town with not much going on, you really need to take another look. For decades Marbella was the golden child of the Costa del Sol with huge changes in infrastructure, new property developments and luxury hotels and restaurants arriving on a regular basis. However, Estepona is now starting to make its very own mark within all of these sectors.

It is now the destination of choice for many of the key property developers with some of the most luxurious and modern new developments being built in Estepona instead of Marbella. Changes in the core infrastructure in and around Estepona have made access, parking and the entire experience much easier and more enjoyable. All of this has been under the watchful eye of the Mayor José García Urbano.

More investment continues to pour into the area in terms of real estate in Estepona with new property developments, both right on the beach as well as slightly more inland. In addition to property there are fabulous leisure facilities being added for all age groups, from kids play areas like Mundo Mania to the Orchid Park for the whole family to enjoy.

This new era of Estepona has not gone un-noticed by some of the local businesses either. For example, the five-star Kempinski Bahia Hotel has undergone a refurbishment and have opened a brand new restaurant called the Balthazar, along with a new Black Rose Bar and a new beach club. Puro Beach also continues to attract many tourists and locals each year at the Laguna Village commercial centre.

Estepona, along with its neighbours Marbella and Benahavis, is part of the main area that now makes up the bulk of tourism and property sales on the Costa del Sol.

The Future is Bright

Estepona is continuing to improve overall facilities, especially as it is seeing more property buyers, which in turn will mean more residents. The brand new Estepona Hospital is due to open at the end of 2018 having received some €15 million investment. The mixture of new property developments in Estepona, which now include some of the finest, luxury projects on the Costa del Sol, means that the area is now also attracting wealthier clientele who once would have only been interested in Marbella.
