Visitors or Property buyers in Estepona might well be wondering why there is suddenly such a buzz about this once quiet and very Spanish town and municipality. It is the location on the Costa del Sol that is seeing the most development in terms of new build properties and new infrastructure and a huge rise in tourism.
New restaurants, tourist attractions and things to do are attracting visitors from all over Spain and beyond so we thought we would bring you six reasons why Estepona is so popular.
1 Authenticity
Although it is home to some of the best new developments on the Costa del Sol, the area retains its original Andalucian charm and authenticity. Many of the new properties, although modern, are still white washed with traditionally designed communal areas and features. The town has not lost its identity and places like the old town and the plaza are where locals and tourists congregate for coffee and a good chat.
2 Location
Estepona is within easy reach of two international airports. Malaga Airport is about an hour by car heading east while Gibraltar is about 40 minutes west. It is just 15 minutes from other popular resorts like Puerto Banus and Marbella or 40 minutes to the Atlantic coast on the Costa de la Luz.
3 Culture
In the town of Estepona there are many things to keep people amused. The old town is a traditional place full of street cafes and restaurants. You can find museums in the centre of town like the Municipal Museum, which is an archaeological collection situated in the Plaza de Torros. The Casa de Cultura located in Plaza de la Flores and provides an area for art exhibitions, while one of the most popular places to visit is the Botanical Park Orchidarium where you can see one of the largest orchid collections in the world.
4 Market
One of the most popular markets on the Costa del Sol takes place every Sunday in the Port of Estepona. It is a beautiful location which houses many different food, clothes and craft stalls bringing in people from all over the coast. It is popular with local residents and a must for tourists.
5 Beaches
There are many beaches along the Costa del Sol but one of the longest stretches is in Estepona. It runs from the start of the town right through to the port and is flanked by a lovely promenade where you will popular chiringuitos (beach bars), cafes and restaurants. However, along the entire municipality of Estepona there are some beautiful bays and small, more private beaches to be discovered.
6 Property
Estepona is one of the few places that is still allowed to build new developments and it is now rivalling the likes of the Marbella Golden Mile in terms of luxury property complexes. These developments sit alongside some of the original and authentic properties, all of which remain popular and sought after by property buyers. Prices also remain lower than the neighbouring Marbella and Benahavis, another reason property is so sought after in Estepona. Some developments that are attracting huge interest are The Edge, Emare and The Island.
